.: Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
Why use CyrSystems?
A: The best way to find the answer is to contact us. We can handle a wide range of projects. After discussing your needs we will prepare a project proposal that describes the best way we can help you.
Sometimes we can not match what a potential client needs. In these cases we will tell you up-front and always try to help you find someone else. We have been doing Systems Development for a long time and have numerous contacts.
Q:
My company already has an engineering department. Why would I want to use CyrSystems?
A: There are a lot of good reasons to use CyrSystems. The most obvious is that your current engineering resources are not enough for your current or upcoming project. Keeping your engineering team focused on their current assignments is one of the most proven ways to ensure that the schedule is met. Handing them a new project, before current projects are complete, risks inefficient multitasking and can cause resources to be devoted to the project that is most interesting, not necessarily the one that benefits your company.
Some common reasons companies outsource:
1) to avoid hiring on a large engineering staff for a single project of limited duration;
2) to help control costs of delivering a design in advance; and
3) when there is substantial risk that the company may decide to cancel a project after technical risks are
evaluated.
Q:
Requirements are important, how do we write them?
A: Requirements are vital the the success of any project, big or small. That is the main focus of this business. If you are unfamiliar with requirements specifications we can guide you through the most efficient definitions procedure.
Even if you are familiar with detailing requirements perhaps you do not have the resources to work on them; we can help.
We have many years of experience writing, analysing and managing requirements. You can use any approach that
works best as long as it results in requirements that are clear, verifiable and traceable. Requirements are the foundation of any successful project.
Q: What kinds of work and payment arrangements are
available?
A: The majority of projects are done on a time and materials basis with periodic
billings based on hours and progress toward milestones. Fixed bids are considered on a case by case basis.
- Time
& Materials: Easier to bid and changes require only
authorization from the client. Client shares some of the risk of undefined project scope.
Provides the most flexible relationship. Works best for clients with clear
business goals and less project definition.
- Fixed-bid:
Cost, milestones and completion known. More information is required to make
a valid proposal. Changes must be handled separately. Because of uncertainties,
these types of contracts will typically be bid at a premium.
